Herman Autrup received a MSc in Organic Chemistry from University of Copenhagen, Denmark and a PhD in Experimental Pathology from University of Nairobi, Kenya. He was working at the National Cancer Institute, USA  until 1984, when he returned to Denmark, where he is currently Professor in Environmental Medicine at University of Aarhus. His research interest is in environment and health, including toxicology, and has focused on nanotoxicology for the last 8 years.
       He is President of the International Union of Toxicology and chairman of The Health and Environment Research Institute (US). He received the EUROTOX Merit award in 2013 and the Society of Toxicology Education Award in 2014. He is a recipient of a CAS Visiting Professor Fellowship in 2016.
